High Winds and Power Outage
This afternoon the National Weather Service issued a high winds warning for Wilkin County, Minnesota, forecasting winds gusting 50-70 miles per hour. The warning took effect at 12:02 p.m. and lasted until 3 p.m. Shortly after the warning took effect, the power went out for roughly an hour.
Rebecca Michael, communications manager for Ottertail Power Company, explained that a tree fell and knocked out a pole in southeast Wahpeton causing the power outage. The company had to cut out the tree before the pole could be repaired and the power brought back online.
